Together with Centre visitors and Lachmann fellows, members of the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method conduct interdisciplinary research which is aimed at the normative analysis of national and international policies.
Research-led impacts include , which led to 50 changes in the way Eurostat collects and analyses quality of life data; , which was endorsed by the WHO Secretary-General in 2016; and .
Ongoing research includes Lachmann Fellow Matthew Adler’s work on how "Prioritarianism" (the view that improvements in the well-being of those who are less well off should be given extra weight in policy-making) can be used to guide policy-making, culminating in his new monograph (2019) ; ’s work in just war theory, including the regulation of autonomous weapons systems; ’s discussion of the pain of invertebrates and EU rules; and s multi-year research project in support of Universal Health Coverage in East Africa.
