About me

Dr. Grace Yuehan Wang is a technology & innovation expert (with a focus on Asia-pacific), an experienced international consultant and a founder. Dr. Wang's expertise emphasizes on artificial intelligence governance, technological innovation and digital economy in the Asia-Pacific region. Her long-term education and work experience in China, the United States, Africa and Europe & UK enables her to provide first-hand, in- depth, and multicultural analysis in regional & international development, technological innovation and global digital governance. Dr. Wang is a skilled practitioner in international education, intercultural communication and cultural diplomacy. Her book manuscript (under contract) on Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area is one of the systematic analyses of a world-class mega city and technology hub in Asia.

Dr. Wang earned her doctoral degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and was the Annenberg Chair Fellow in Communication, Technology, and Society for two years. Previously, she studied at Boston University and the University of California, Los Angeles. She was also a visiting researcher to the Media Law and Policy program at the University of Oxford and was awarded the Frank Andrews international fellowship for the 69th Annual Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Wang was the South Africa National Research Foundation grant holder during 2021-2022 and she was the only Asian recipient awarded the Joint Research Funding by Cape Higher Education Consortium / Western Cape Government (WCG) for her research proposal on digital economy in South Africa.

Excels at translating academic and theoretical concepts to the general audiences through writings and wider engagement, Dr. Wang has been gaining international recognition and making an impact beyond academia, particularly in Asia and other global south regions. She collaborates and works with organizations in Southeast Asia and Africa. Dr. Wang was invited by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to provide expert reviews for Cambodia’s national artificial intelligence strategy draft. In 2025, as a Chinese representative, Dr. Wang was invited to attend the China-UK Artificial Intelligence Cooperation and Regulation Symposium organized by the China – Britain Business Council in Beijing with UK academics and policymakers. With a passion for international education deriving from her personal experiences, Dr. Wang has been actively engaging with the international education sectors. For instance, in 2022, she was a mentor and a consultant to the United Nations Climate Change Action Digital Strategy Program, working with college students from South Africa, Brazil, Hong Kong and the UK to deliver an actionable climate digital plan. In 2023, she consulted several NGOs in Southeast Asia and Africa with regard to digital divide and youth development during her consultancy with the Aspen Institute. Prior to the 2025 LSE Festival, she was invited to share her work with LSE Groups, an LSE undergraduate research program.

Dr. Wang appears in podcast interviews and TV shows that demand her expertise, both in English and Mandarin Chinese shows. For Instance, CNBC International Access ASEAN program interviewed Dr. Wang with regard to artificial intelligence innovation and business investment in Southeast Asia. In June 2024, Dr. Wang was invited by the Royal United Services Institute to participate in a closed-door BRICS online debate with scholars and well-known journalists across the world. In October 2024, Dr. Wang was invited to participate in an online discussion with ambassador to the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Tong Defa and other Chinese and African scholars to jointly explore the new strategic cooperative relationship between China and Africa. In November 2024, Dr. Wang was invited as a speaker at the Times Higher Education Southeast Asia Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to discuss the theme: Regulating Emerging Technologies for a Secure Future: Cross industry collaboration (did not attend due to travel issues). In 2023, she was invited by CGTN Radio program, the China – Africa Talk to comment on China’s Africa diplomacy and business. She was invited by the CGTN America to talk about China and Africa with regards to technology, trade and investment. In 2022, she was also invited by The China-Global South Project to a podcast interview to discuss what South Africa can learn from China’s leading technology hub, Shenzhen regarding economic development and technological innovation.

As an experienced bilingual writer, Dr. Wang publishes articles in high-level Chinese academic publications and government reports. For example, her report "Tencent: The Three Umbrellas of Gaming, Finance, and Digital Content" was selected in the "2020 China Media Industry Development Report." Her paper "From Silicon Valley to Silicon Delta: A Case Study of Shenzhen as an Informational City" was selected in the "2020 Cultural and Technological Development Report Bluebook.” Besides academic and policy reports, Dr. Wang also publishes in high-level Chinese speaking media, for instance, her article with Singapore headquartered Lian He Zao Bao, on China’s AI created animation and soft power.
