The Enlighten PhD Scholarship Programme is a new initiative offered via LSE.
This prestigious scholarship programme supports outstanding students from China in pursuing their research degree at LSE. The programme will support 27 students in total over a period of five years. There are six scholarships available for those starting their studies in the 2026/27 academic year.
The Enlighten PhD Scholarship Programme provides £50,000 per academic year for up to four years to support tuition fees and living costs. The will vary each year of study and the scholarship amount will be reduced if no tuition fees are charged.
- Candidates must be nationals of the People's Republic of China.
- Candidates must hold an offer of admission to an MRes/MPhil/PhD programme.
- Candidates must be enrolling in a full-time mode of study
There is no initial application for this funding opportunity. You will be considered automatically based on your application for admission.
- Candidates need to have submitted a complete application for admission to the Graduate Admissions Office before the application deadline of 14 January 2026. Some departments will have an earlier deadline so refer to the individual programme page for the relevant deadline information Find your graduate programme.

- The Financial Support Office will notify successful candidates of their nomination to the Enlighten PhD Scholarship Programme by 27 March 2026.
- Nominated candidates will be asked to submit an application form, CV, copy of their research proposal and statement of academic purpose to the funder for them to consider the nomination.
- Nominated candidates will be evaluated by the funder through interviews and surveys of the applicant and their family. The outcome will be confirmed in May.
- Successful candidates will be expected to participate in one online/offline feedback activity each academic year; publish papers in core journals or participate in international academic conferences and present reports; submit references and supervisor evaluations, allow their images to be used in publications.
